![]() Thinking about Into Headship?The Into Headship Programme is open to suitably experienced teachers who could reasonably expect to be ready for a head teacher post within 2-3 years. Applicants must be endorsed by their head teacher or line manager and will then be interviewed by their local authority. The application process usually opens in January and prospective participants should receive notification from their Local Authority Coordinator. If you are interested in becoming a participant on Into Headship, you should speak first with your head teacher or line manager and then make contact with the Local Authority officer who is responsible or Into Headship. Participants from Independent SchoolsHolding the Standard for Headship (GTCS, 2021) is mandatory for substantive head teachers in local authority schools. Whilst the legislation does not currently apply to head teachers in the independent sector, many independent schools support their aspiring head teachers to undertake Into Headship and achieve the Standard for Headship. If you are a participant from an independent school and have the support of your head teacher, you should make your application directly to Education Scotland, who will also carry out an interview.
